Off-Broadway musical Striking 12, based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Matchgirl, is set to open at London's Union Theatre next month.

Written by Brendan Milburn, Valerie Vigoda (book, music and lyrics) and Rachel Sheinkin (book and lyrics), the musical is set on New Years' Eve as Brendan, whose fiancée has just left him and is about to lose his job, is stuck in the office working late, until a lightbulb seller steps in to shake his evening up.

It will run at the Union Theatre from 28th November to 23rd December, with an official opening night on 3rd December.

Milburn and Vigoda are co-fouders of GrooveLily, and their credits include Toy Story the Musical, Sleeping Beauty Wakes, and Long Story Short. Shainkin is a regular collaborator of theirs, whose work also includes The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for which she won the 2005 Tony Award for best book of a musical.

It will be directed by Oliver Kaderbhai, whose director credits include Peter Pan (Chichester Festival Theatre) and  One Minute (The Vaults), as well as associate and movement director credits on Killer Joe at Trafalgar Studios, and Bug and The Dazzle at Found111.

The production will be designed by Natalie Johnson with lighting by Alex Lewer.

Striking 12 will run at the Union Theatre from 28th November to 23rd December.
