Playwright Simon Gray has died aged 71

English playwright Simon Gray has died of cancer aged 71.

The author penned more than 30 plays for stage and TV, as well as five novels.

His plays include "The Common Pursuit", which was recently at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2008 and "Quartermaine's Terms". His plays on the West End includes "Otherwise Engaged" at the Criterion in 2005; "The Old Masters" at the Comedy Theatre in 2004; "The Holy Terror" at the Duke of York's in 2004; "Japes" at the Haymarket in 2001; "Life Support" at the Aldwych in 1997; "Cell Mates" at the Albery in 1995.
