Welsh actor Rhys Ifans is to star in the Old Vic's production of Mood Music, which is set to open in April 2018.

Ifans is currently starring as Scrooge at the theatre in Jack Thorne's adaptation of Dickens' classic novel A Christmas Carol, and Mood Music will see the actor reunite with director Roger Mitchell following the 2004 film Enduring Love.

Joe Penhall's play is set in an expensive London recording studio where two songwriters and their lawyers lock horns over music. Penhall is best-known for penning the West End musical Sunny Afternoon and the Olivier Award-winning play Blue/Orange, as well as the Netflix hit series Mindhunter.

Other than A Christmas Carol, Ifans' previous stage credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Don Juan in Soho at the Donmar Warehouse and Fool alongside Glenda Jackson in King Lear.

The 2018 season at the Old Vic also includes productions of Fanny and Alexander, The Divide, A Monster Calls and Sylvia.

Mood Music is at the Old Vic from 21st April to 30th June, with an official opening night on 2nd May.

Mood Music Tickets are available now.
