"The Goat or Who Is Sylvia" closes 7 Aug 2004

Edward Albee's The Goat or Who Is Sylvia?, is to close on 7 Aug 2004 at the end of its initial booking period at the Apollo Theatre.

The Goat or Who Is Sylvia? had its world première on Broadway in 2002, and was awarded the Tony Award for Best play as well as New York Critics' Circle, Outer Critics' Circle and the Drama Desk Awards.

The Play opened at The Almeida Theatre in London on 3 Feb 2004 to terrific notices from the popular press: NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "The Goat, with its persistent undertow of humour, is as humane as it is provocative." PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Albee, the clever technician, is... playing artful games with the audience's levels of tolerance." The Goat or Who Is Sylvia? transferred from the Almeida Theatre to the West End's Apollo Theatre from 13 Apr 2004

In the same week as receiving an international prize, being awarded a lucrative contract, and celebrating his 50th birthday, Martin is forced to confess to his wife and son that he is involved in a relationship that will probably destroy his marriage, his career, and his life.
