The Knight of the Burning Pestle - cast announced

The cast has been announced for The Knight of the Burning Pestle, which opens at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, 26 Feb 2014, following previews from 20 Feb - booking to 30 Mar 2014.

The comedy, directed by Adele Thomas, will include Pauline McLynn (Citizen's Wife), Phil Daniels (Citizen), Matthew Needham (Rafe), Giles Cooper, John Dougall, Denise Gough, Samuel Hargreaves, Dennis Herdman, Sarah MacRae, Matthew Needham (Rafe), Dean Nolan, Brendan O'Hea, Paul Rider, Dickon Tyrrell, and Alex Waldmann.

Written by Francis Beaumont, The Knight of the Burning Pestle tells the story of a grocer and his wife who are dissatisfied by a play's progress. They invade the stage and commandeer the play to suit their tastes.

Pauline McLynn has appeared on the London stage at the Bush Theatre in Sixty-Six Books and is best known for her role as Mrs Doyle in Father Ted, a Channel 4 comedy TV series. Phil Daniels has previously appeared at the Globe in 2011's The God of Soho. He is also known for playing the role of Kevin Wicks in BBC TV's long-running soap Eastenders. Matthew Needham has previously appeared in the Royal Shakespeare Company's Titus Andronicus and Candide.

The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is a new 340-seat Indoor Jacobean Theatre at Shakespeare's Globe.
