Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' musical The Light In The Piazza is set to run at London's Southbank Centre in 2019, directed by Daniel Evans.

The musical is set in Florence, and tells the story of a mother and daughter on holiday in Italy, when Clara is swept up in a romance with local man Fabrizio, but she finds herself hiding a secret from him that she can no longer contain.

When it gets its London premiere at the Southbank Centre in June, the musical will star renowned opera singer Renée Fleming, and star of Disney's The Descendants, Dove Cameron. Directed by Chichester Festival Theatre artistic director Daniel Evans, the production will feature a live 40-piece symphony orchestra, and will run for 20 performances from 14th June.

The Light in the Piazza premiered in Seattle in 2003 before opening on Broadway in 2005, where it won a Tony Award for best original score. It is based on the 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer, and blends classical music and opera, making it stand out from the poppy Broadway scores at the time.

American soprano Renée Fleming is renowned across the world for her performances in operas such as La traviata, Le nozze di Figaro, and in 2010, she performed during the Last Night of the Proms in London.

Dove Cameron is known for playing the eponymous characters in the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie, as well as the Descendants films. On stage, she has played Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia in Hollywood, and is currently appearing in the Off-Broadway production of Clueless: The Musical.

The Light In The Piazza will run at the Southbank Centre from 14th June to 5th July, with an official opening night on 18th June.

The Light In The Piazza tickets will be available soon.
