The Memoirs of Lucy Bell by Hope Murphy-Nanton

The Memoirs of Lucy Bell, written & directed by Hope Murphy-Nanton, at The Space, Isle of Dogs, east London, 24 to 28 Sep 2013.

A musical play, which focuses on the life of a jazz singer. Her story is punctuated with jazz numbers, previously sung by Miss Ella Fitzgerald. Lucy Bell, prompted by her agent, struggles to write her memoirs, but a fond recollection of her first meeting with Ella Fitzgerald quickly turns into a catalyst for her life story. Beginning with her frugal but happy childhood, we travel with Lucy through the highs and lows on which she has built her success. Takes us from the sunny streets of 70s LA to the buzzing clubs of New Orleans in the 90s and back again.
