The National Youth Theatre have today announced their new season of work which marks 50 years of the youth organisation commissioning new work for young people.

The 'East End season' comes to the Yard Theatre in east London and runs from 8 to 26 August 2017. The season will feature productions of Jessica Swale's Blue Stockings, the premiere of The Host, a new play commission by NYT in response to 23 June 2016 and the European refugee crisis by Nessah Muthy and the return of Mohsin Hamid's The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

In October a 50-strong cast will bring Peter Terson's iconic play about football hooliganism, Zigger Zagger to life, 50 years after being first commissioned. Directed by Juliet Knight, this irreverent tale of tribalism follows the story of Harry Philton, a passionate fan of the local football team, who struggles between the life of sex, violence and drink football offers and a stable future.

The West End REP Season will return to the Ambassadors Theatre for a fifth year this September with a brand new female-led adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde exploring women's roles and rights in Victorian society, by Evan Placey. This will be followed by a collaboration with Frantic Assembly and a modern-day Othello under the direction of Simon Pittman. The productions will run from 26 September to 8 December in rep.

It was also announced that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli will succeed Lord Waheed Alli as President of the National Youth Theatre.
