THEATRE PEOPLE IN NEW YEAR HONOURS LIST

Theatre people in the New Year Honours List include actress Imelda Staunton (OBE); Playwright Arnold Wesker (knighted)

Imelda Staunton's (OBE) won a Bafta for her role as Vera Drake in Mike Leigh's Oscar-nominated film in February 2005. Her London stage credits include "Guys and Dolls" at the National in 1996; " Habeas Corpus" at the Donmar Warehouse in 1996; "Life x 3 " at the National in 2000 & Old Vic in 2001; "Calico" at the Duke of York's in 2004.

Playwright Arnold Wesker is knighted. Born 24 May 1932, he is a prolific British dramatist known for his contributions to kitchen sink drama. He is the author of 42 plays, 4 volumes of short stories, 2 volumes of essays, a book on journalism, a children's book, extensive journalism, poetry and other assorted writings. His plays have been translated into 17 languages and performed world-wide. His play "Chips with Everything" was at the National Theatre in 1997.
