Wicked plays landmark 4000th West End performance

The West End production of Wicked will today play its landmark 4000th performance at the Apollo Victoria Theatre at 2.30pm. The show is currently in its tenth anniversary year and became the 9th longest-running show in the West End on 5 September 2015. The musical is now the 19th longest-running show in West End theatre history.

The show opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on 27 September 2006, following previews from 07 September, and has since been seen by almost 6 million people. The production recently announced its 21st booking extension and is now booking until 29 April 2017.

The current cast of Wicked includes Emma Hatton (Elphaba), Savannah Stevenson (Glinda), Oliver Savile (Fiyero), Liza Sadovy (Madame Morrible), Mark Curry (The Wizard), Sean Kearns (Doctor Dillamond), Daniel Hope (Boq), and Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose).

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. It is directed by Joe Mantello with scenic design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound by Tony Meola, orchestrations by William David Brohn, musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

Since opening on Broadway at the George Gershwin Theatre in 2004, the musical has won over 100 major international awards and has been performed in over 100 cities in 14 countries around the world. It recently concluded its first UK tour where it was seen by 1.3 million people, and will begin an international tour later in 2016.
