The upcoming West End run of Caroline, or Change has extended its run in the West End, it has been announced.

Following the production's opening at Chichester Festival Theatre, and subsequent transfer to the Hampstead Theatre earlier this year, the musical will open at the Playhouse Theatre on 20th November and is now booking in the West End until 6th April.

Starring Sharon D Clarke, Caroline, Or Change tells the story of a maid who works for the Gellman family in Louisiana. She is faced with an ethical dilemma when she is told she can keep any pocket money the family's son Noah leaves in his pockets, but it will help sustain her family.

Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's musical premiered Off-Broadway in 2003, transferring to Broadway the following year, and getting its London premiere at the National Theate in 2006, winning the Olivier Award for best new musical.

Michael Longhurst's production opened to positive reviews in Chichester in 2017, and when it transferred to the Hampstead in 2018, critic Mark Shenton hailed the show 'too good to miss' in a five-star, adding Clarke's performance is one of 'power, majesty and dignity'.
