CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR "THE MIKADO " AT SAVOY FROM 25TH JUNE

Full casting has been announced for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado, which will open at the Savoy theatre on 27th June 02, following previews from 25th June 02, and booking to 14th Sep 02.

The cast includes Jasper Carrot (Ko Ko), Joseph Shovelton (Nanki-Poo), Gareth Jones (Pish-Tush), Royce Mills (Pooh-Bah), Sandra Nakhosteen (Pitti-Sing), Michelle Lokey-Smid (Peep-Bo), Susannah Self (Katisha), Graham Stone (The Mikado), Jacqueline Varsey and Charlotte Page share the role of (Yum-Tum).

This production was previously at the Savoy in 2000, where it was directed by Ian Judge and choreographed by Lindsay Dolan and nominated for an Olivier Award for 'Best Musical Production'.

This production will be directed by John La Bouchardiere and choreographed by Lyn Jolly. Tim Goodchild will again design the set.

The Mlkado is a classic story of love cantering on Nanki-Poo, the son of The Mikado of Japan, who flees his father's Imperial court to escape marriage with Katisha, an elderly lady. In disguise he falls in love with Yum-Yum who unfortunately has been betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. The trials and tribulations faced by Nanki-Poo in his determination to marry his sweetheart in turn mock the snobbery and pluralism of the class system.
