Triptic Theatre have announced the complete cast for their presentation of Bernarda Alba, a musical by Michael John LaChiusa, based on Federico García Lorca’s 1936 play, playing at the Union Theatre (a fringe venue in south London), from 23 Aug to 17 Sep 2011.
Joining previously announced Beverley Klein as 'Bernarda Alba', are Amelia Adams-Pearce (Adela), Suanne Braun (Servant/Prudencia), Maria Coyne (Young Maid), Soophia Foroughi (Magdalena), Emily-Jane Morris (Amelia), Ellen O’Grady (Poncia), Fiona Sinnott (Angustias), Buster Skeggs (Maria Josepha) and Rebecca Trehearn (Martirio).
Directed by Katherine Hare, the musical will be choreographed by Racky Plews, with musical direction by Leigh Thompson.
"Bernarda Alba is a taut, provocative musical about an emotionally and sexually repressed group of daughters rebelling against their smothering mother in 1930s rural Spain. Inspired by the drama and fire of Spanish flamenco and traditional folk songs and with an all-female cast, LaChiusa’s take on Lorca’s work is a seamless blend of music, drama and dance bursting with passion as the women’s struggle against a repressive regime culminates in a shocking climax."
