Democracy to close 9 Oct 2004

Michael Frayn's Democracy, is to close on 9 Oct 2004 at the Wyndham's Theatre.

The play premiered at the Cottesloe, National Theatre on 9 Sep 2003, with Roger Allam as Willy Brandt and Conleth Hill as Gunter Guillaume, and received superb notices from the poplar press. It then transferred to The Lyttelton, National Theatre 13 Feb 04, and thento the West End at the Wyndham's Theatre from 16 April 2004.

It is directed by Michael Blakemore, designed by Peter J Davison, lighting by Mark Henderson, and costumes by Sue Willmington.

West Germany, 1969. Willy Brandt begins his brief but remarkable career as the first left-of-centre Chancellor for nearly forty years. Always present but rarely noticed is Gunter Guillaume, Brandt's devoted personal assistant - and no less devoted in his other role, spying on Brandt for the Stasi.
