After successful runs at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 2016 and 2017, Jesus Christ Superstar will play at the Barbican Theatre in 2019 for a limited engagement of 60 performances.

The production will open on 4th July 2019, closing on 24th August 2019.

The production won the Olivier Award for best musical revival in 2017, as well as the Evening Standard Award for best musical.

When the production played at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, LondonTheatre.co.uk remarked that "the production harnesses a festival vibe" and is a different take on a "musical theatre classic".

With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical tells the story of Jesus Christ's last seven days in his life, with a soundtrack including "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Gethsemane" as well as the title song.

Casting information is to be announced.

The Regent's Park Open Air Theatre cast included Tyrone Huntley as Judas, who won the Evening Standard Award for emerging talent, as well as Declan Bennett as Jesus and David Thaxton as Pilate.

Timothy Sheader directs the production, with Drew McOnie as choreographer and Tom Deering as musical director.

Tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar will go on sale on 16th November 2018 at 11:00am.

Jesus Christ Superstar will open at the Barbican Theatre on 4th July 2019.
