Macbeth with Sean Bean extends to 1 Mar 03
William Shakespeare's Macbeth has been extended by one month to 1 Mar 03 at the Albery Theatre (Note, there are no perfs from 2 to 9 Feb 03 inclusive)
Directed by Edward Hall, the play features Sean Bean, Samantha Bond, Julian Glover, Mark Bazeley, Barnaby Kay.
The play opened last month to luke-warm notices from the popular press: SHERIDAN MORLEY says, "A bitter, black and bloody triumph" THE INDEPENDENT says, "Pedestrian production is nobody's finest hour" And goes on to say, "A crude and disappointing venture." THE GUARDIAN says, "A standard-issue production that is briskly staged rather than imaginatively rethought." THE TIMES says, "Hall's production is brisk and fluent." THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Lightweight abbreviated production lacks any central idea but flaunts its perversities." THE SUNDAY TIMES says, "Sean Bean looks the part as Macbeth, but his performance is too clean-cut to convince."
