"Otherwise Engaged" closes 28 Jan 2006

Otherwise Engaged will end its run as scheduled on 28 Jan 2006 at the Criterion Theatre.

The production opened at the Criterion Theatre 31 Oct 2005, following previews from 25 Oct to good notices from popular press: BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "Excellent revival thanks partly to the fascination of that ambiguity, partly to Gray's refreshingly unsentimental humour." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Otherwise Engaged is a modern classic of English high comedy." PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Entertaining, well-paced production...a pleasurable and rewarding evening" MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "what makes the play so fascinating is that you feel Gray is more than half in love with the vice he is attacking."

The play stars Richard E Grant as 'Simon Hench', Anthony Head as 'Jeff Golding' and David Bamber as 'Bernard Wood'

Written by Simon Gray, it is directed by Simon Curtis, designed by Simon Higlett with lighting by Tim Mitchell.

It is produced by Mark Rubinstein, Sonia Friedman Productions, Lee Menzies and TEG Productions.

Witty, urbane, sophisticated and selfish, publisher 'Simon Hench' is a man of taste and discretion, who is accustomed to keeping himself at a graceful distance from the messy distractions of his family and friends. He has a problem, though - well, several actually - only he just doesn't know it yet. Settling in for a morning in his lavishly furnished home with his new recording of Wagner's Parsifal, Simon is besieged by a deluge of unwelcome visitors and his usually cool demeanour begins to buckle as life finally catches up with him.
