It has been announced that William Shakespeare's Richard II is to be screened live from the Globe theatre on Digital TV channel BBC Four on 7 Sep 03.

Viewers will be able to listen to a commentary by a theatre critic and will be able to choose different camera angles using digital interactive services.

This production of Richard II received good notices from the popular press when it opened at the Globe Theatre in May this year: MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "Rylance is fascinating to watch." NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Rylance's Richard is defined by haughtiness and petulance, detachment and mocking wit." DOMINIC CAVENDISH for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "A glorious Richard II directed by Tim Carroll." IAN JOHNS for THE TIMES says, "Rylance takes an ineffectual character and dominates the stage with it."

The play is directed by Tim Carroll and features an all-male cost including Mark Rylance (Richard II) and Liam Brennan (Bolingbroke).
