"THE MYSTERIES" EXTEND 6 WEEKS

The Spier Festival company's production of The Mysteries , has been extended 6 weeks from 6th Apr to 18th May 02 at the Queens Theatre.

The show received superb notices from the popular press when in opened last month: BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES said, "West End erupts with joy at gift from Africa." MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN described the show as "dazzling ". PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT said, "Not to put too fine a point on it, this version of The Mysteries is The loveliest, purest and most uplifting show in London." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Make no mistake. This is one of the most moving, beautiful, humane and courageous shows you will ever see in the West End."

This production creates an extraordinary blend of the medieval words of the Chester Mystery Plays (performed in Xhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans as well as English) with music - ancient and modern, African and European. It draws on the rich choral traditions of the South African townships and on modern rhythms created with drums and penny whistles.
