"Wait Until Dark" to close early 13 Dec 03

The thriller Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott, has posted early closing notices at the Garrick Theatre. The last performance will on 13 Dec 2003. (It was originally booking to 28 Feb 04).

The play opened last month to below average notices from the popular press : LYN GARDNER for THE GUARDIAN says, "Limp evening." NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Relish the slow, seductive spiral of excitement." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Desperately tame and old-fashioned." IAN JOHNS for THE TIMES says, "Few sparks to lighten the gloom."

The cast includes Peter Bowles (Roat), Saskia Wickham (Susy), Gary Mavers (Mike), Tony Scannell (Croker), Robert Fitch (Sam), Bettrys Jones (Gloria), Bill French, Justine Deaville.

It is directed by Joe Harmston, with design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting by Nick Richings, and produced by Bill Kenwright.

Wait Until Dark is set in a basement flat in Notting Hill. Susy , who is blind, is alone while her husband is away on business. Three con-men led by the mysterious Roat break in to retrieve a doll containing heroin which Sam her husband has unwittingly brought through customs.
