Young Vic Theatre announce new season / Vernon God Little extends

The Young Vic Theatre have announced their new season - running from 22 Aug 2007 to 19 Jan 2008.

It has also been anounced that VERNON GOD LITTLE, by DBC Pierre, adapted by Tanya Ronder, has been extended by 2 weeks to 23 June 2007. Directed by Rufus Norris, designed by Ian MacNeil, costumes by Nicky Gillibrand, sound by Paul Arditti . It's Friday at the Sheriff's office. Vernon sits in his underpants, staring at his Nike's. His best friend Jesus went and killed all their classmates, then himself. Normal times just ran howling from town.

Main House

MEMBER OF THE WEDDING, by Carson McCullers, will open 13 Sep 2007, following previews from 7 Sep - running to 10 Oct 2007. Directed by Matthew Dunster, designed by Robert Innes Hopkins, lighting by Philip Gladwell, sound by Paul Arditti and music by Olly Fox.12 year old Frankie shares her dreams with her worldly wise maid Berenice. Desperate to join the sophisticated world of her brother and his fiancee, she schemes to leave home and become a 'member' of their wedding.

THE INVESTIGATION, by Weiss, will open 1 Nov 2007, following previews from 31 Oct - running to 10 Nov 2007. Directed by Dorcy Rugamba and Isabelle Gyselinx, designed by Fabienne Damiean, lighting by Manu Deck. A company of Rwandan actors including Leon Athanase Mandali, Lyliane Matabishi, Kenny Nkundwa, Thomas Nyarwaya, Olivier Rangira, Dorcy Rugamba, Aimable Twahirwa. Documentary play, based on verbatim reports and debates from the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials of 1963-65

THE MAGIC FLUTE & A CHRISTMAS CAROL Mozart and Dickens through a South African lens. In repertoire 20 Nov 2007 - 19 Jan 2008. Directed by Mark Dornford-May, designed by Mannie Manimm, co-produced by Portobello / Young Vic. Transposed into a township setting and encompass the various languages of the nation.

 

Maria Studio

MA VIE EN ROSE, Loosely based on Alain Berliner's 1997 film. Runs from 22 to 25 Aug 2007. Directed by Pete Harris, lighting by David Holmes, music by Gary Yershon. Tells the story of Ludovic, a little boy who longs to be a little girl.

FRAGMENTS, 5 short plays: Rockaby, Rough for Theatre I, Act Without Words II, Come and Go, Neither by Samuel Beckett, will open 20 Sep 2007, following previews from 15 Sep 2007 - running to 6 Oct 2007. Directed by Peter Brook, assisted by Lilo Baur and Marie-Helene Estienne, , lighting by Philippe Vialatte, Choreography by Ayse Taskiran, co-produced by Theatre des Bouffes du Nord / Young Vic . Cast includes Marcello Magni, Jozef Houben, Kathryn Hunter. 'Peter Brook's sinuous stripped back productions reveal all the angry warmth of this dark, despairing, life-celebrating humanist. They will be performed in English and will demonstrate what Brook believes to be the bedrock of theatre: the purity of the text and the undiluted power of acting.'
