Casting announced for Kathy Burke’s production of The Retreat
Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Sam Bain's play The Retreat, which will be directed by Kathy Burke at the Park Theatre in November.
Bain's play is about Luke, a former city worker who now lives in a stone hut on a remote mountain in the Scottish Highlands as he tries to find inner peace. However, his obnoxious older brother Tony finds him and threatens his quest to settle his mind.
Adam Deacon will play Tony, Samuel Anderson will play Luke and Yasmine Akram will play Tara.
Adam Deacon is best known for appearing in the films Adulthood and Kidulthood, playing the role of Jay. His television work also includes Babylon, Inside No. 9 and Being Human.
Samuel Anderson played Danny Pink in series eight of Doctor Who. His stage work includes Crowther in the National Theatre's production of The History Boys, which led to him playing the role on Broadway.
Yasmine Akram appeared in the BBC series Sherlock, playing Sherlock's short-term girlfriend Janine. She has also appeared in Lovesick (Netflix), Stella (Sky1) and Undercover (Dave).
Kathy Burke has previously directed Betty at the Vaudeville Theatre, Kosher Harry at the Royal Court and Out in the Open at Hampstead Theatre. She is due to direct Lady Windermere's Fan at the Vaudeville next year as part of Dominic Dromgoole's Oscar Wilde season.
The Retreat will have designs by Paul Wills with Design by Paul Keogan, and sound design by John Leonard. It runs at the Park Theatre from 2nd November to 2nd December.
