Casting announced for Orpheus Descending at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Casting has been announced for Tamara Harvey's upcoming production of Tennessee Williams' Orpheus Descending at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

The play, first performed in 1957, is a retelling of the Greek legend of Orpheus, setting it in a small market town in the Southern states of America.

Harvey directs the play, which is a co-production with Theatr Clwyd in Wales where she is artistic director, when it runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 9th May to 6th July.

The cast of the production includes Jemima Rooper (Carol Cuere), Hattie Morahan (Lady Torrance), Seth Numrich (Val Xavier).

Full casting includes: Catrin Aaron (Beulah Binnings), Michael Geary (Pee Wee Binnings), Valentine Hanson (Uncle Pleasant), Jenny Livsey (Eva Temple/Woman), Laura Jane Matthewson (Dolly Hamma), Mark Meadows (Jabe Torrance), Ifan Meredith (David Cutrere/Dog Hamma), Ian Porter (Sheriff Talbott), Carol Royle (Vee Talbott) and Carrie Quinlan (Sister/Nurse Porter).

Harvey's creative team for the production includes designer Jonathan Fensom, lighting designer Tim Mascall, sound designer Gregory Clarke and composer Simon Slater.

Harvey's production of Home, I'm Darling, a co-production between Theatr Clwyd and the National Theatre, was nominated for best new comedy at this year's Olivier Awards.

Orpheus Descending is at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 9th May.
