Danny Dyer and Jo Brand to star in Nativity the Musical in London
Danny Dyer is set to star in the return of Nativity! the Musical to London this Christmas, alongside comedian Jo Brand.
Debbie Isitt's adaptation of the much-loved film sees school teacher Mr Maddens and his class attempt to mount a musical production of the nativity story. Maddens promises his class that a Hollywood producer will come to see the show, and he and his teaching assistant Mr Poppy must control the class and mount a star production.
Nativity! the Musical returns to Eventim Apollo from 19th to 31st December, with tickets on sale now.
EastEnders actor Dyer will appear in the production as the Hollywood producer, while Brand will play The Critic and Simon Lipkin will reprise his role as Mr Poppy.
Danny Dyer is set to return to the West End next year in Jamie Lloyd's Pinter at the Pinter season, having appeared in three of the playwright's plays previously, and is known for his roles as Queen Vic landlord in the long-running BBC series, as well as parts in the films Mean Machine and The Football Factory.
Jo Brand is a stand-up comic best-known for her extensive tours of the UK, and seen on screen on panel shows such as Live at the Apollo and Have I Got News For You? Her acting credits include the Channel 4 sitcom Damned.
Simon Lipkin is a West End actor known for his roles in the London premiere of Avenue Q as well as parts in Rock Of Ages, Guys and Dolls and X Factor musical I Can't Sing. He played Mr Poppy in last year's production of Nativity at the Eventim Apollo.
Scott Garnham (Made In Dagenham) will play Mr Maddens, while Ashleigh Gray (Wicked) will play Jennifer Lore.
The full cast includes: Andy Barke, Andy Brady, Jamie Chapman, Jemma Churchill, Oscar Conlon-Morrey, Gary Davis, Kade Ferraiolo, Ashleigh Graham, and Helena Pipe.
The production, produced by Birmingham Repertory Theatre, the piece is directed by Isitt, with music and lyrics by Nicky Ager, choreographyby Andrew Wright, designd by David Woodhead, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Tom Marshall and musical supervision and orchestrations by George Dyer.
