Full casting announced for Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train at the Young Vic

Artistic Director of the Young Vic Kwame Kwei-Armah has announced the full cast for Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train.

Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Adly Gurgis, Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train is set inside a high-security prison in New York. As a young man is faced with a serial killer and the prison guards, the play offers an insightful look into the workings of the American justice system in a story where good and evil battle one another.

Casting for Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train includes Matthew Douglas, who has previously starred in An Inspector Calls at the Playhouse Theatre.

Dervla Kirwan joins the cast, after starring in numerous West End productions including Betrayal and The Weir at the Donmar Warehouse and Mr Foote's Other Leg at Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Joplin Sibtain will star in the production, with previous credits including National Theatre productions of The Absence of War and Behind The Beautiful Forevers as well as A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

Oberon K. A. Adjepong joins the cast of Jesus Hopped The 'A' Train after starring in an off Broadway production of Good Grief. He will star alongside Ukweli Roach whose previous credits include Nightfall at the Bridge Theatre and 5,6,7,8 at the Royal Court Theatre.

The production is directed by Kate Hewitt, who has previously worked on shows including Yerma and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train will play from 14th February 2019 as part of a trio of shows opening at the Young Vic throughout February 2019.

In addition, casting has also been announced for the upcoming production of Wild East at The Clare. Based around a job interview, the comedy play is set to star Lucy Briers, Kemi-Bo Jacobs and Zach Wyatt under direction from Lekan Lewal. Wild East will open at The Clare on 6th February, playing until 16th February. 

In conjunction with inmates from HMP Wandsworth, the lives of people affected by the criminal justice system will be explored in The Jumper Factory, playing at The Maria from 27th February to 9th March. 

Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train will take place during Kwame Kwei-Armah's inaugural season as Artistic Director of the Young Vic, after assuming the position from David Lan. His previous shows in this role include Twelfth Night and The Convert, which will play its final performance on 19th January. 

Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train will play at the Young Vic from 14th February to 30th March.
