Saturday Night Fever to close 18 Feb 2006

The musical Saturday Night Fever, which was booking to 29 April 2006, will now close on 18 Feb 2006 after posting closing notices at the Apollo Victoria Theatre

Directed and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the show opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on 6 July 2004 to luke-warm notices from the popular press: NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Tends to wilt and droop as if in need of a vitamin B12 injection...leaves me deflated." ELISABETH MAHONEY for THE GUARDIAN says, "Many..exuberant moments in the show...a sketchy plot at best ." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "The dancing's hot, the acting's not." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "I wish the piece had more plot, more atmosphere, more bite...Still, those Spanish Americans bring style, sensuality and terrific fizz to their dancing"

Saturday Night Fever the stage musical is based on the film with story by Nik Cohn and screenplay by Norman Wexler. Stage adaptation by Nan Knighton, Arlene Philips, Paul Nicholas and Robert Stigwood. Music and lyrics by The Bee Gees.

Set in New York, Saturday Night Fever tells the story of an ambitious, talented and streetwise Brooklyn kid with the burning desire to make it big. Packed with disco hits including Stayin Alive, Night Fever, Jive Talking and How Deep Is Your Love.
