A new revival of Summer and Smoke by Tennessee Williams, starring Rosamund Pike will open at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Ave 18 Oct 2006, following previews from 12 Oct. (following a short run at Nottingham Playhouse from 26 September to 7 October)

Rosamund Pike (Alma Winemiller) was last seen on stage at the Royal Court and Lyric Theatre in 2003 in Terry Johnson's "Hitchcock Blonde". She is known internationally for her roles in films including Pride and Prejudice, The Libertine and the James Bond blockbuster Die Another Day.

The cast also features Chris Carmack (John), Sebastian Abiner, Michael Brown , David Killick , Tom Lawrence , Kate O'Toole , Chris Ravenscroft , Hanne Steen, Hannah Stokely

It is directed by Adrian Noble, designed by Peter McKintosh , lighting by Peter Mumford, costumes by Desidre Clancy. Produced by Kim Poster on behalf of Stanhope Productions

Set in a small insular town in America's Deep South during 1916. The story of smoldering attraction and repressed passion. Alma Winemiller, has long adored John, the charismatic but dissolute son of her neighbour and the town's respected doctor. As the drama unfolds in this tale of longing and unrequited love, lives are changed in a way that none of those involved could ever have predicted.
