Superior Donuts by Tracy Letts at Southwark Playhouse
The Trick and Sarah Stribley Productions present the UK premiere of Superior Donuts by Tracy Letts, at the Southwark Playhouse's 'Little Space', a fringe venue near Elephant and Castle in south London, from 11 Feb to 8 Mar 2014.
Directed by Ned Bennett, this drama about the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship first premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 2008, before transferring to Broadway.
As Starbucks and organic food stores pop up all around it in UpTown Chicago, Arthur Przybyszewski continues to run the small rundown donut shop set up by his Polish immigrant father. Neglected by its owner and damaged by vandals, Superior Donuts only survives thanks to a diverse group of loyal neighbourhood customers. But when Arthur hires an excitable romantic, Franco Wicks, who wants to change the shop for the better to work alongside him, he is forced to confront the modern reality of the American Dream.
