Frequently asked questions

What are the best shows in London?

London has so many great shows in the West End and beyond. Check out our guides to the top 10 plays and the top 10 musicals to see.

How far in advance should I purchase London theatre tickets?

If you're looking to purchase seats in a specific section or at a specific price point, we recommend booking tickets early before your desired seats sell out. However, tickets to London shows are available up to the day of the show, so you can plan a last-minute theatre trip if you choose. Not all performances will have day-of availability, however, and ticket options might be limited.

What's the best day to see a musical or play in London?

Weeknights are great days to see London shows, as there are fewer tourists and therefore generally more availability and ticket price options, even last-minute. However, if you're looking to make a full day of your London theatre trip and/or are traveling with kids, a weekend is the best day to go, as most shows have matinee and evening performances.

How early should I arrive to the theatre?

We recommend arriving to the theatre approximately 30 minutes before showtime. This will give you time to enter the theatre (and potentially beat the crowds queuing to get in), use the bathroom, buy concessions and merchandise, and find your seat without rushing before curtain.

What should I wear to the theatre?

London theatres have no specific dress code; the most important thing is to wear something you'll be comfortable sitting in for a few hours. It is best to refrain, if possible, from wearing bulky layers (as there isn't much storage space for them in theatre seats) and noisy accessories.

Are London theatres open every day of the week?

Most theatres are closed one day a week; Monday and Sunday are the most common days for theatres to be closed. Each show operates on a slightly different schedule, though, so there is theatre going on in London seven days a week.
